About the Conference

FORENSIC MEDICON 2027 is the 48th Annual National Conference of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, hosted by Swami Rama Himalayan University in Dehradun.

48th Edition 2–6 February 2027 Dehradun, Uttarakhand 5 Skill Labs 6 Disciplines

Who it brings together

Experts from across Forensic Medicine, Nursing, Forensic Science, Law and Criminal Justice.

This year's edition is organised with the active support of the Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI), Uttarakhand State Branch.

Why it matters

Justice depends on coordination. Police investigators, medical professionals, forensic scientists, the judiciary and society each hold one link of the same chain.

When any link is weak, evidence fails — however sound the science behind it.

The nursing frontline

Nurses are the first to meet victims of trauma and violence, often hours before an investigator arrives.

They bridge clinical care with early evidence preservation and meticulous medico-legal documentation — which is why nursing sits at the centre of this year's theme.

Translational
Forensics

Turning academic research, nursing insight and scientific innovation into three practical things: investigative tools that work in the field, bedside practice that preserves evidence, and courtroom evidence that holds up under scrutiny.

H.H. Swami Rama, founder of the institution
H.H. Swami RamaFounder of the institution

Philosophical Inspiration

Inspired by the vision of H.H. Swami Rama, founder of the institution, who emphasised the integration of science, spirituality and discipline in the pursuit of truth and service. FORENSIC MEDICON 2027 carries this philosophy into medico-legal practice, where science must be applied with responsibility, humility and in the service of justice.

Learn the path of selflessness, because that is the only way of liberation. There is no other way.

The Official Mascot

Male Himalayan Monal

Official mascot

The Monal

Lophophorus impejanus — the Himalayan Monal

The bird in our emblem

The state bird of Uttarakhand. A high-altitude pheasant of the Himalayan oak and rhododendron forests, the male carries a metallic green crest over plumage that shifts through blue, violet, copper and gold as the light moves across it — the tail a burnished orange that shows in flight.

It is a ground bird with a powerful beak, and it feeds by digging beneath the surface for tubers and roots that nothing above ground reveals. It is famously alert — climbing onto a rock to read the whole slope before it settles.

Patient, watchful, and willing to look under the surface for what is not visible from above: a fitting emblem for a conference on forensic medicine, held in the state the bird belongs to.

Forensic Medicine does not function in isolation.

Its impact is realised only when scientific findings pass intact through every hand that touches them.

What the theme sets out to do

Flagship session

The Justice Chain Forum

An interdisciplinary dialogue bringing every institution involved in justice delivery into the same room — for once, at the same table.

What it examines

  • Systemic gaps between institutions
  • Practical challenges in day-to-day casework
  • Opportunities to improve coordination across the chain

What it produces

Not a panel discussion that ends when the session does. The forum sets out to deliver practical recommendations for strengthening the role of Forensic Medicine within the justice system.

₹200 off for TNAI & SNAI members

Members of the Trained Nurses' Association of India and the Student Nurses' Association of India get ₹200 off every nursing slab — Early Bird to Spot.

Membership number required at registration

The discount is applied only against a valid TNAI or SNAI membership number. Registrations without one are charged the full nursing rate.

Nursing registration covers Thursday 4 February only. To attend the full conference, contact the Help Desk before registering.

Conference registration includes

  • Entry to all scientific sessions
  • Breakfast, lunch and refreshments
  • Conference kit
  • Conference dinners
  • Gala dinner / cultural evening
  • Participation certificate

Good to know

  • *** The conference kit is not provided for spot registrations, undergraduate students and nursing professionals.
  • Nursing registration covers Thursday 4 February only. To attend the full conference, contact the Help Desk before registering.
  • Registration is free for IAFM life members aged 70 years and above who are no longer in active service. A valid IAFM life membership number is required.
  • Your slab is decided by the date payment is received. A form submitted before a deadline but paid after it is charged at the next slab.
  • Cancellation and refund terms are set out below.
  • CME accreditation is being applied for. Credit hours will be confirmed closer to the conference.
  • Overseas delegates: 18% GST is added to every overseas fee, including skill labs and accompanying persons. See International delegates below for visa, payment and travel details.
Payment date decides your rate. Early Bird, Regular and Late fees are allotted on the date the money reaches the conference account — not the date the form is submitted. Pay well before a deadline rather than on it. For anything unclear, write to the organising office at 2027forensicmedicon@gmail.com. Fees shown here follow the official conference brochure.

International Delegates

Everything you need to plan the trip — visa, payment and getting to Dehradun. Please read this before booking anything.

Visa — you need a Conference visa

Attending a conference in India requires a Conference visa, not a tourist visa. Tourism can be combined with it, but a tourist visa alone is not valid for attending the scientific sessions.

A Conference visa application needs a letter of invitation from the organising committee together with the event clearances obtained by us from the Government of India. You cannot apply until those are in place.

To request your invitation letter, write to 2027forensicmedicon@gmail.com with:

  • Full name exactly as printed in your passport
  • Passport number, nationality and date of birth
  • Institution and designation
  • Intended dates of arrival and departure

Please request this by 31 October 2026. Clearance and visa processing together take several weeks, and a request made in January will not be met in time for February.

Fees & how to pay

Overseas fees are quoted before tax and 18% GST is added to everything — registration, skill labs and accompanying persons alike. The registration form shows the final figure; that is the amount to send.

Payment is by international bank transfer. The conference account accepts inward remittances.

Account details are issued on request. Write to 2027forensicmedicon@gmail.com with your name, country and Registration ID, and the full remittance details — account name, bank, account number, IFSC, SWIFT / BIC and branch — will be sent to you by return email.

Send the fee net of all bank charges. Sending, intermediary and receiving banks each deduct their own; if the amount that arrives is short, your registration stays part-paid until the balance is cleared.

After transferring, email us the SWIFT reference or UTR quoting your Registration ID.

Getting to Dehradun

Jolly Grant Airport (DED) handles domestic flights only. International delegates arrive at Delhi (DEL) and take a connecting domestic flight to Dehradun — about an hour, and the venue sits beside the airport.

If the two tickets are booked separately, allow at least four hours at Delhi for immigration, baggage reclaim and the terminal change. A shorter gap will not survive a delayed arrival.

By road, Dehradun is roughly 235 km from Delhi, five to six hours. Overnight trains also run from Delhi.

Good to know

  • February in Dehradun is cool — roughly 6–22 °C. Pack layers; mornings are cold.
  • A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you are arriving from, or have recently transited, a country where it is endemic.
  • Hotels file a routine Form C for foreign guests — carry your passport at check-in.
  • FRRO registration is not needed for a visit of this length.
  • All deadlines on this site are Indian Standard Time (UTC +5:30).
  • Indian SIM cards need your passport and visa; buying one at the airport is easiest.

Before you book non-refundable travel: please write to us and confirm that the event clearance for FORENSIC MEDICON 2027 is in place. Conference visas cannot be issued until it is, and we would rather tell you early than have you holding a ticket you cannot use.

Places at the skill labs are limited and seat-based. Early Bird rates close on 15 September 2026.

It is my immense pleasure to welcome you to the 48th Annual National Conference of the Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine (IAFM) — FORENSIC MEDICON 2027, hosted by the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Swami Rama Himalayan University.

Forensic Medicine today stands at a critical intersection of medical science, law and rapidly evolving technology. In this dynamic landscape, accuracy, integrity and interdisciplinary collaboration are no longer optional — they are essential.

This conference is envisioned as a platform for meaningful exchange, bringing together experts, academicians and practitioners to shape the future of Forensic Medicine in India. I warmly invite you to be a part of this academic endeavour.

In an era of rapid innovation and rising medico-legal scrutiny, we must move past traditional professional silos. Our theme reflects the urgent need for a proactive, unified approach to justice.

Representing the nursing fraternity, I am especially proud to highlight the vital role of forensic nursing. As the frontline response for trauma victims, nurses bridge the gap between clinical care and evidence preservation. By uniting this clinical foundation with the expertise of investigators, forensic scientists and the judiciary, we can translate insights into a more robust, empathetic and flawless delivery of justice.

— Dr Rajesh Kumar Sharma

This year we are proud to host this prestigious gathering at Swami Rama Himalayan University. In an era defined by rapid innovation, digital transformation and increasing medico-legal scrutiny, it is no longer enough to merely keep pace — our field must be proactive, reflective and deeply collaborative.

We have curated this conference to serve as a premier forum for practitioners, academicians and researchers: a crucible for fresh ideas, where traditional methodologies are refined by modern scientific rigour.

— Dr Pragya Tripathi

Forensic medicine is evolving at an incredible pace. With every leap in technology and shift in legal expectations, the challenge for us remains the same: how do we bridge the gap between what we know and how we apply it?

Our team has put a tremendous amount of heart into designing a schedule that balances deep academic learning with practical, hands-on experience. More than a series of lectures, we want this conference to be a place where we truly talk to one another. Our motto: transforming forensic knowledge into real-world impact.

— Dr Harvinder Singh Chhabra

Dr Grace Madonna SinghDr Grace Madonna SinghOrganizing Co-Secretary · Professor & Head, Mental Health Nursing+

Our theme this year is incredibly close to my heart. It reminds us that the journey toward truth and justice so often begins right at the patient's bedside.

As a nursing educator, I am thrilled to see our nursing fraternity rightfully recognised as a core pillar of this ecosystem. In those critical "golden hour" moments of trauma or crisis, it is the nurse who provides immediate, compassionate care while simultaneously preserving vital evidence under frameworks like the POCSO Act and BNS. We are the early guardians of a patient's story and legal truth.

Conference week is winter. Expect roughly 6–22 °C in the valley, near-freezing nights at Dhanaulti and Chakrata, and a real chance of snow above 2000 m. Pack layers — and if the hills are why you're coming, February is the right week for it.
Distances below are measured from Dehradun city. The venue sits at Jolly Grant, about 25 km east on the Rishikesh road — so Rishikesh and Haridwar are closer than they look, and Mussoorie and Chakrata a little further.
